Dans les deux types de rituels, à chaque fois, les participants sont conduits sur le champ cérémoniel par un ou plusieurs hommes portant une coiffe à cornes. D’après H. Van der Veen, au Couchant, un esclave, le to ussobo’i rante entre dans le champ funéraire en premier afin d’exorciser le mal ; de la même façon, au Levant, c’est « celui qui chante » (to menani) qui entre sur le champ (voir les notes non publiées de Veen dans The Handschriften collection of the Royal Institute for Linguistics in Leiden (c. p. H. Nooy-Palm).

In both types of celebration, the participants are led onto the ceremonial field each time by one or more men wearing horned headdresses. According to H. Van der Veen, the to ussobo'i rante is a slave who enters the funeral field first to exorcise evil; in the same way, in the bua’ kasalle, the to menani (“the one who sings”) enters the ceremonial field (kala’paran) (cf. Veen’s unpublished notes in the Handschriften collection of the Royal Institute for Linguistics in Leiden; Hetty Nooy-Palm, personal communication, 1995). (anglais)
