In the example opposite, four officiants create the drone by singing the line on a single pitch while a soloist sings several very simple melodic formulas over the drone. Musically the solo is the interesting part: the voice is resonant and dynamic; the intervals chosen – second, minor third, fourth, diminished fifth, fifth – and the continual variations give the prayer a distinctive character.

Dans l’exemple, quatre officiants réalisent le bourdon en énonçant le vers sur une seule note pendant qu’un soliste réalise plusieurs formules mélodiques simples sur le bourdon.
