Pendant les cinq jours qui précèdent la sortie des mâts cérémoniels, cinq groupes de cinq à six officiants se rassemblent dans la pièce centrale des maisons (le foyer – la cuisine – étant placé vers le levant) qui abritent les familles participant au rituel maro. Toute la nuit, ils récitent en psalmodiant le gelong maro. Plusieurs personnes dont quelques femmes suivent les to minaa, sans bien connaître les paroles. Pendant ce temps, certaines cuisinent devant le foyer. Dans les maisons, le chant est surtout récité par les hommes.

For the five days preceding the day on which the standards appear, groups of officiants to minaa (as few as one, as many as six) gather in the central room of the houses (the hearth – the kitchen, to the east) of the families participating in the maro. They recite all night, chanting the gelong maro. Several lay people, including some women, follow the officiants to minaa even though they are not very familiar with the words. Meanwhile, the women are busy by the hearth. In the houses mainly men recite the song. (anglais)

Selama lima hari sebelum bendera dikeluarkan, sekelompok pemangku adat to minaa (dari satu sampai enam orang) berkumpul dalam ruang tengah rumah-rumah (perapian – dapur – berada pada bagian timur) yang merupakan tempat tinggal para keluarga yang ikut serta dalam ritus maro. Sepanjang malam, mereka memantrakan gelong maro. Sekelompok orang awam, yang antara lain adalah beberapa wanita, mengikuti para pemangku adat to minaa, tanpa mengenal baik syair gelongnya.
