To designate the matrix scale – G Bb C –Kurt Reinhard uses the term nucleus and suggests that pentatonism arose from that (Reinhard 1958). The succession of intervals (approximating minor third, second, and second could correspond to the succession of harmonics 6, 7, 8, 9 in the harmonic series (taking C as h1).
