The first rhythm informs all within a wide range that a being of great nobility will be celebrated with the grandest pomp. Played continuously, the rhythm is known as digento tedong ‘lame buffalo’. Symbolically, this rhythm signifies that the deceased is ‘ill’ but still not dead, though in fact dead long since. At the beginning of the first funeral it is played twice.

Le premier motif indique à l’ensemble des gens au loin qu’un être de grande noblesse sera fêté avec grand faste. Joué en boucle, le rythme digento tedong (« buffle boiteux ») signifie que le mort est « malade » mais pas encore mort socialement bien que mort physiquement depuis longtemps. Irama yang pertama memberitahukan kepada semua orang di kejauhan bahwa seorang bangsawan tinggi akan dipestakan dengan pesta yang paling besar. Dimainkan berulang kali, irama ini disebut digento tedong “pincang”. Irama ini menunjukkan bahwa orang yang meninggal itu “sakit” namun belum mati secara simbolis meskipun sudah meninggal sejak lama.
