Les premières funérailles marquent la transformation du « malade » – mort biologiquement depuis longtemps – en défunt véritable. Elle signe la mort symbolique du corps, qui sera à ce moment seulement tourné la tête vers l’aval puis suspendu en haut du plafond. Les secondes funérailles permettent à l’ombre du défunt – figurée par une effigie – de partir en voyage afin de se présenter au lieu des morts en aval accompagné des richesses sacrifiées qui lui ont été offertes pendant les rituels.
