Commencent les rites d’enveloppement du mort avec des étoffes. L’officiant funéraire (to mebalun) fait des offrandes de viande, de riz et de bétel au défunt. Le soir, les officiants invoquent les ancêtres et recherchent les fautes du défunt dans l’invocation kakarun. Le défunt est veillé par les chants dondi’ et la ronde badong, appelée encore « jeu d’enfants » (badong maningo pia-pia) car elle ne raconte encore rien de précis. D’ailleurs, le chant n’est pas mentionné à cette étape du rituel dans l’hagiographie ossoran badong (voir Spicilège toraja et Anthologie).

The rites for wrapping the corpse with cloths begin. The funeral officiant (to mebalun) makes the deceased meat, rice and betel offerings. In the evening the officiants invoke the ancestors (kakarun) and look for the deceased’s faults. Dondi’ vigil songs are sung and a badong is performed, but it is still called ‘child’s play’ (badong maningo pia-pia) as it tells of nothing very precisely. Moreover, the song is not mentioned at this stage of the ritual in the hagiography ossoran badong (cf. Florilegium Toraja and Anthology). (anglais)

Ritus pembungkusan jenazah dimulai. Pemangku adat to mebalun mempersembahkan masakan daging, nasi dan sirih kepada mendiang. Pada malam hari, para pemangku adat memanjatkan doa kakarun kepada para leluhur serta mencoba menelusuri riwayat hidup mendiang, untuk mencari apakah ia pernah melakukan kesalahan dalam hidupnya. Mendiang ditemani oleh nyanyian dondi’ dan tarian badong, yang masih disebut “mainan anak-anak” (badong maningo pia’-pia’), karena tarian itu belum bercerita tentang sesuatu yang jelas.Tambahan pula, nyanyian pada tahapan ritus ini belum disebutkan dalam ossoran badong, madah riwayat hidup (lihat Kumpulan Dokumen dan Antologi).
