Although no plucked lute playing tradition can be found in the east of the Toraja country, a tradition of lute accompanied singing exists, however, among the western Toraja, known as ma' anduru in the Mamasa region. The instrument appears to come from the province of Mambi, in the west of Mamasa, and in some parts of the Mandar coast. It may have replaced the tandilo. The two strings are tuned in fourths.
