In all the simbong pieces, one aspect invariably stands out: the gap between the two voices widens as the piece progresses until stabilizing. At the beginning, the gap is less than a tone. It will nearly always be larger at the end – except for the choruses of Se'seng, who sometimes conclude on a ratio of 10/9, i.e., a very small second. Sometimes the differences between the beginning and the end within the same piece are on the order of a semitone.

(Indonesian)

Beginning of the simbong song (SPO 4), recorded at Poka. The interval changes from 165 cents (ratio 11/10) at the beginning to 252 cents (ratio 7/6) at the end. Although the drone drops, the soloist stays on a level. In other cases, the drone note above all tends to go down while the soloist tends to adjust by climbing. Most of the time the soloist tries to keep the interval stable., Début du chant simbong (SPO 4), enregistré à Poka. Sementara dengungan berkurang, solis tetap bertahan. Dalam hal-hal lain, nada dengungan biasanya cenderung berkurang sedangkan solis cenderung menyesuaikan diri dengan naik. Solis biasanya mencari kemantapan interval. (Indonesian)
