Public

The marakka is a female lamentation accompanied by the ring-stop flute (suling) with six finger-holes. These songs are characterised by the parallel inflexions of the flute with the feminine voices, the horizontality of the melody, the unmeasured rhythm, and a particular semi-tonal scale. These songs were recorded out of the context of a death ritual. (anglais)
