Le statisme des chants s’enracine dans la linéarité presque absolue de la mélodie dont la pulsation n’est pas perceptible. La mélodie offre peu de points d’appuis, glissant doucement, en valeurs courtes très ornées, du haut vers le bas, vers le chromatisme ultime (le mi bécarre), comme un soupir plaintif, au cœur du gémissement, là où surgit le mot qui ajoute alors à l’expression.

The songs’ static nature is rooted in the nearly absolute linearity of the melody with its imperceptible pulse. The melody offers few supports and slides smoothly with ornate short values from high to low towards the ultimate chromaticism - E natural – like a plaintive sigh, in the heart of the moaning, where the word appears to add to the expression.
