La veille des secondes funérailles, le défunt « qui sommeille le long de la poutre » est descendu du plafond. Les enfants s’agenouillent et poussent des cris : « hélas ! il/elle est morte » (matemo indo’/ambe’). Le poème hagiographique est alors récité. Puis, les chanteurs reprennent en chœur certaines parties de ce même poème. Les vers sont alors énoncés par un « souffleur de lamentation » qui souffle les paroles à chanter à l’ensemble des chanteurs. Chanter la totalité du poème durait autrefois sept jours et sept nuits.

On the eve of the proper celebration, the body ‘sleeping along the beam’ is taken down from the ceiling. The children kneel and cry ‘Alas! He/she is dead’ (matemo indo’/ambe'). Then, the hagiographic poem is pronounced. Afterwards the singers repeat certain parts of this poem in chorus. The lines are then uttered by a ‘lamentation prompter’ who prompts the lyrics to be sung by every singers. Singing the whole poem used to take seven days and nights. (anglais)

Sehari sebelum upacara yang sesungguhnya dimulai, jenazah “yang dianggap mengantuk sepanjang balok” diturunkan dari atas rumah. Anak-anaknya berlutut terkulai sambil meratap “Aduh! Ayah/Ibu kita telah berpulang! (Matemo dikka’ indo’/ambe’ta!)”. Syair-syair pujian pun dikumandangkan, yang kemudian untuk bait-bait tertentu, didendangkan dalam bentuk kor oleh para penari dalam lingkaran, setiap kali pembawa syair berhenti. Sajak-sajak tersebut dilantunkan terlebih dahulu oleh “seorang pembisik syair ratapan”, yang melontarkan naskah-naskah yang harus dinyanyikan oleh para penari dalam lingkaran. Pada masa lalu, dibutuhkan waktu tujuh hari tujuh malam untuk menyanyikan keseluruhan naskah syair tersebut. (indonésien)
