Le poème est composé par chaque chanteur qui choisit des figures rhétoriques conventionnelles. Le chanteur parle à la première personne du singulier contrairement au badong où le narrateur parle à la première personne du pluriel. Il peut se permettre des libertés quant au contenu de son discours. Des retteng sont disponibles dans Veen 1966, Koubi 1982, Sandarupa 2004.

The poem is composed by each singer who chooses conventional rhetorical figures. The singer speaks in the first person singular, unlike the badong where the narrator speaks in the first person plural. The retteng singer can take liberties with the contents of what he says.
