Le retteng sindun « retteng qui génère une vue opposée » prend la forme d’un débat entre plusieurs chanteurs. Dans leur jeu verbal se dégage une violence symbolique qui peut mener à un véritable combat (Sandarupa 2004 : 231). Dans la région plus stratifiée (tallu lembangna), ces combats par retteng sont encore fréquents.

The retteng sindun ‘retteng generating an opposite view’ takes the form of a debate between several singers. A symbolic violence is unleashed in their verbal jousting, which can lead to a real combat (Sandarupa 2004: 231). Retteng sindun, (retteng yang mengungkapkan sudut pandang yang berlawanan) tampil dalam bentuk perdebatan antara beberapa penyanyi. Dalam permainan verbal dapat diamati adanya suatu kekerasan simbolis, yang dapat mengarah ke pertarungan nyata (Sandarupa, 2004: 231).
