In the West, the first act of the great funerals consists of changing the corpse’s position from east-west to north-south. The rite is called ‘turning the deceased around ‘ (ma'pabalik to mate). ‘The deceased is turned around’, with the head to the south, and is then deemed ready to leave for the place of the ancestors, known as Puya.

Au couchant, le premier acte des grandes funérailles consiste à changer la position du mort de la position est-ouest à la position nord-sud. Le rite se nomme « retourner le mort » (ma’pabalik to mate). « Le mort est retourné », la tête vers l’aval, puis est alors considéré comme prêt à partir vers le lieu des ancêtres appelé Puya.
