Un deuxième motif donne le défunt pour mort (dipamate). Cette frappe est le signal de sa mort sociale. Juste après ces frappes, le corps qui reposait dans la chambre la plus au sud, en position levant-couchant, est déplacé dans la pièce centrale en position amont-aval, la tête vers l’aval. Ce changement de position inaugure le départ du voyage de « l’ombre » bombo (esprit du défunt) vers l’aval.

Then another beat announces the deceased’s death (dipamate). This beat is the signal of his ‘ritual’ death – although the deceased has been dead for some time. This signifies that the physical body is really dead, though the deceased’s spirit is still present. Just after these strokes, the body, which had been lying in the southernmost room in west-east position, is removed to the central room and put in a north-south position. Kemudian pukulan kedua mengabarkan bahwa orang yang meninggal itu sudah mati (dipamate). Pukulan itu merupakan tanda tentang kematian “ritualnya” — meskipun orang yang meninggal tersebut sudah meninggal sejak lama. Hal itu berarti bahwa tubuh jasmaninya memang sudah mati tetapi roh orang yang meninggal itu masih ada di sana. Tepat setelah pukulan-pukulan ini, tubuh yang terbaring di kamar paling selatan, dalam posisi barat-timur, dipindahkan ke ruang utama dalam posisi utara-selatan.
