During playing, the drums may be suspended or may (at Mamasa) rest on the ground. Of various sizes, they can be grouped in three configurations – in ones, twos, or fours, and can be struck by one, two, or four players, who beat in interlocking patterns with a drumstick, or by hand. The drums are organized in pairs: a ‘woman’ and ‘a man’. One pair is reserved for the rituals of the West and the other for those of the East.

Les tambours peuvent être posés ou suspendus (à Mamasa). De tailles différentes, ils peuvent être groupés selon trois configurations (par un, deux, ou quatre), et être joués par une, deux ou quatre personnes qui peuvent le battre en alternance à l’aide d’une mailloche et avec la main.
