In the syllabic dondi’, the beats are distributed over a melodico-rhythmic cycle, defined by the regular repetition of accents. This cycle can be based on the recurrence of a single four-beat rhythmic figure (type of matrix), repeated a fixed number of times. It can also be longer, founded on the succession of four- or five- beat rhythmic segments. Not all the lines are adapted to all the melodies. Tradition has fixed certain lines on certain melodies.

Dans le dondi’ syllabique, les temps sont répartis dans un cycle mélodico-rythmique, défini par la réitération régulière d’accents. Ce cycle peut être fondé sur la récurrence d’une seule figure rythmique de quatre temps (sorte de matrice), répétée un nombre fixe de fois. Il peut aussi être plus long, fondé sur l’enchaînement de cellules rythmiques de quatre à cinq temps. Tous les vers ne s’adaptent pas à toutes les mélodies. Dalam dondi’ silabis, ketukan-ketukan dibagi dalam satu siklus melodiko-ritmis, yang ditentukan oleh pengulangan tekanan secara teratur. Siklus ini dapat terbentuk berdasarkan pengulangan hanya satu figur ritmis empat ketukan (semacam matris), yang adakalanya diulang-ulang dalam jumlah tertentu. Dapat pula lebih panjang, berdasarkan rangkaian sel-sel ritmis dari 4 sampai 5 ketukan. Semua sajak tidak berarti dapat menyesuaikan diri dengan semua melodi. Tradisi telah menunjukkan bahwa hanya sajak-sajak tertentu yang dapat bergandengan dengan melodi tertentu pula. (Indonesian)
