The myth recalls that the maro ritual was held in heaven to cure the child of the God Puang Matua (Nooy-Palm 1986: 127). What is notable is, on the one hand, the importance of the woman in the cure – a female divinity brings the remedy – and on the other the role of blood evoked through the red cordyline plant, the mouth spraying, and lastly the erection of the mast (bate).
