In the eyes of the Toraja biological death is not recognized as true death. The deceased is deemed to be sick (to makula' ‘the one who is warm’) until the first funeral celebration, which can take place years after biological death. Meanwhile, the deceased, who rests in the house lying east-west, is fed.

(Indonesian)
