Chaque danse (badong ou simbong) repose sur une matrice narrative, énoncée au début du rituel par les officiants puis reprise par le chœur. Au Couchant : le « récit du badong » (ossoran badong) constitue l’hagiographie du défunt. Au Levant, le « récit du simbong » (samparan simbong) est un panégyrique du vivant. Les paroles de ces chants diffèrent mais certaines parties sont communes. Leur fonction est similaire : le badong est une louange du défunt et le simbong est une louange du propriétaire de la maison fêtée.

Each song (badong or simbong) is based on a narrative matrix performed at the start of the ritual by the officiants and then taken up by the chorus: in the West, the ossoran badong (hagiography of the deceased), in the East, the samparan simbong (panegyric of a living person). The words of these songs are different, but certain parts are common.
