The Toraja Sa'dan country was divided into customary territories whose original union was based on the common bua’ celebration represented by the song and consecrated by the toponymic term ‘place of song’ (penanian). These confederated territories were considered to follow common religious and social rules. A ‘place of song’ designates a group of united small hamlets (about twelve houses). A collection of ‘places of song’ (in 3, 4, 8, 12, 24), called lembang ‘vessel’, could further federate in several lembang.

(Indonesian)
