Les paroles du badong sont de deux sortes. Alors que les aristocrates ont droit à un récit hagiographique chanté qui les divinise, les moins nobles n’ont droit qu’à des strophes discontinues. Seuls les mots séparent, élèvent ou abaissent. Les mélodies, elles, ne diffèrent pas selon les classes sociales.

The words of the badong songs are of two types. Whereas the aristocrats have the right to a sung hagiographic recitation deifying them, the less noble have only the right to discontinuous stanzas. Syair-syair badong terdiri dari dua macam. Bagi kaum ningrat, mereka berhak atas sebuah madah riwayat hidup yang dinyanyikan untuk menempatkan mereka pada tingkat para leluhur; sebaliknya, bagi mereka yang tingkat keningratannya lebih rendah, syair-syair yang dinyanyikan hanyalah dalam bentuk bait-bait tertentu, yang tentunya tidak memiliki kesinambungan.
