The word for this flute is an Austronesian term: Kruyt gives both the Wana and Loinang instruments as tulali. A turali flute is found in Sabah on the island of Borneo, among the Dusun (nose flute, rather short, Matusky 2004), in the Gorontalo region of Sulawesi, and in the eastern Fiji islands (Tryon ed. 1994). There’s also a Philippine nose-flute called tongali, and a Toba Batak and Simalungun Batak have bamboo flutes called tulila.

(Indonesian)
