At the funeral two groups of donors are distinguished: blood relations (pa'rapuan) and affines (to rampean). When family members bring pigs, the gifts are not considered to be debts, whereas the ‘presents’ brought by allies will be counted as debts. The debts between givers and receivers are considered to be a series of repeated pairs throughout time, not an infinite chain. (Waterson 1993: 83).

(Indonesian)
