Dans les strophes à énigmes – en forme de devinette –, ce sont les oiseaux et les instruments de musique qui constituent les sujets du poème. Le chant des oiseaux (aigrette, calao huppé, pivert…) désigne celui des chanteurs, qui, tels les oiseaux, sont coiffés de plumes multicolores ou celui des officiants rituels, reconnaissables à leurs attributs sonores. Dans toutes ces strophes, la seule référence à l’ouïe est récurrente. Aucune autre notation sensorielle n’est évoquée.

In the enigma stanzas – in the form of riddles – birds and musical instruments are the subjects of the poem. The birdsong (including egret, crested hornbill, green woodpecker) designates the song of the singers, who, like the birds, have multicolored feathers on their heads; or that of the ritual officiants, recognizable from their resonating qualities. In all these stanzas, the reference to hearing alone recurs. No other mode of sensation is evoked. (anglais)

Dalam bait yang sulit diterka – dalam bentuk teka-teki – yang menjadi subjek puisi adalah burung-burung dan instrumen musik. Nyanyian burung-burung (bangau, enggang, enggang bulu, pelatuk) mengacu kepada para penyanyi itu sendiri, yang seperti halnya dengan burung-burung, menggunakan bulu-bulu burung yang beraneka warna, atau pada pemangku adat ritual, yang dapat dikenali melalui atribut bunyi-bunyiannya. Dalam semua bait ini, rujukan pada pendengaran tersirat. Tidak ada notasi sensorial lainnya yang sempat diucapkan. (indonésien)
