The front of the house, facing the rice granary, looks upstream in the direction of the divinities, while the back looks downstream towards the ancestors. In the house the kitchen is in the East; the parents sleep in the room on the south and the children to the north; only the dead rest with the head downstream and the body lying along the West wall, towards the home of the dead, in the southwest of Tana Toraja, down the river Sa'dan.

L’avant de la maison, situé en face du grenier à riz, fait face à l’amont, en direction des divinités tandis que l’arrière de la maison est orienté vers l’aval, en direction des ancêtres. Dans la maison, la cuisine est face au levant ; les parents dorment dans la pièce située au sud et les enfants au nord ; par ailleurs, seuls les défunts reposent la tête vers l’aval et le corps couché le long de la paroi au couchant, vers le lieu où résident les défunts, au sud-ouest de Tana Toraja, en aval de la rivière Sa’dan. Bagian depan rumah yang berhadapan dengan lumbung padi, mengarah ke hulu sungai, ke dunia para dewa. Sedangkan bagian belakang rumah mengarah ke muara, ke wilayah para leluhur. Dalam rumah, dapur terletak di bagian timur; orang tua tidur dalam ruangan yang terletak di bagian selatan, dan anak-anak di bagian utara. Perlu dicatat bahwa hanya tubuh mendiang yang dibaringkan dengan kepala mengarah ke muara, pada dinding sebelah barat, artinya ke arah tempat tinggal roh mendiang. Tempat itu dianggap terletak di sebelah barat daya Tana Toraja, pada wilayah hilir Sungai Sa’dan. (Indonesian)
